Beyond the Tent: The Growth of iKamper’s Thriving Community
When we launched the Skycamp on Kickstarter in 2017, our goal was simple: help make it easier for people to get outside and explore. We believed that better gear could remove barriers to adventure, but we never imagined where that idea would lead.
What started as a rooftop tent company has grown into a global community of campers, overlanders, weekend warriors, road trippers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Along the way, we’ve hosted events across the country, developed products used on adventures around the world, and had the privilege of connecting with thousands of incredible people who share a passion for getting outside.
When you open that iKamper box for the first time, you’re not just receiving a rooftop tent. You’re joining a community built around adventure, exploration, and a love for the outdoors.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that the people who make up the iKamper community are some of the best around.
From swapping stories over a cup of coffee at Breakfast & Builds events to meeting travelers parked beneath the Redwoods, we’ve been continually inspired by the enthusiasm, generosity, and sense of adventure shared by iKamper owners. The connections we’ve seen form along the way have been every bit as rewarding as the products we’ve built.

CAMPOUT Customer Meetup
Every year, CAMPOUT gives us an opportunity to bring the community together in person, and it continues to be one of the highlights of our calendar.
When we hosted CAMPOUT at Black Oak Ranch in Northern California, we hoped a few adventurous folks would make the journey. Instead, more than 200 members of the iKamper community joined us for an unforgettable weekend of camping, conversation, and connection.
Campers traveled from across the United States and Canada, with some making the trek from thousands of miles away just to spend a few days together around the campfire. For three days, vehicles became homes, strangers became friends, and stories were shared long into the evening.
It’s during weekends like these that the true spirit of the community comes to life.
When we asked attendees about their favorite part of CAMPOUT, the answer was almost always the same: the people.
Some said “community.” Others simply said “everything.”
Over the years, we’ve watched online conversations turn into real friendships and weekend camping trips evolve into lifelong traditions. Whether those connections begin through our Facebook Community group, at a local meetup, or during a chance conversation at an event, they all share a common thread: a love of adventure and a willingness to help others get outside.
That’s something special, and it’s something we’re proud to be a small part of.
A Place for Everyone
One of the things we love most about the outdoor community is that there’s no single path into it.
Some people are seasoned overlanders crossing remote deserts. Others are loading up the family SUV for a weekend at a state park. Some spend months living on the road, while others escape the city whenever they can find a free weekend.
The outdoors belongs to all of us.
Spending time together at CAMPOUT reinforced what we’ve always believed: the iKamper community is made up of people from different backgrounds, different experiences, and different styles of adventure, but we’re united by a shared appreciation for the places we explore and the memories we create along the way.
Your stories, photos, vehicle builds, and trip reports continue to inspire us every day. They push us to create better products, improve existing ones, and keep finding new ways to support the adventures that matter most to you.

Events like CAMPOUT, Breakfast & Builds, Overland Expo, and local meetups continue to bring the community together, creating opportunities to connect, learn, and share experiences around a common passion for exploration.
At the end of the day, that’s what iKamper has always been about.
